How you can help

Welcome to Cats Protection

We need to emphasise one of the main aims of Cats Protection straight away and that's neutering. At the start of 2012 we began to receive calls from owners who think their unspayed female cat is pregnant. Cats Protection champions neutering as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats and kittens in the UK.

Gosport Cats Protection along with other animal charities are struggling to cope with the number of animals needing our help. Resources are stretched to find the money, time and space to help all the cats and kittens needing care. We urge owners to be responsible and get their cat or kitten neutered. Check out the neutering page for details about the benefits of getting your pet neutered and also the financial help available. Phone us on 02392 582601 during May 2012 and if you're on benefits / low income you could get your cat or kitten neutered for just £5.

Now to tell you about us at Gosport Cats Protection. Our branch was formed in 1982 by just 2 people, a mother and daughter, and now we are part of Cats Protection the UK's leading feline welfare charity.  Our branch started out with a mere £200, a cat trap and one pen financed by a volunteer and situated in their garden.

Most of our work then revolved around trapping and neuturing the colonies of feral cats in the Gosport naval establishments and in the high street area together with taming and rehoming feral kittens.  Over the years we have rehomed in excess of 400 of these kittens.

Today we deal more with the rescuing and rehoming of domestic cats but still neuter and support feral cats as required.

We operate 5 pens at present located in members gardens.  We also operate a comprehensive lost and found register and an assisted neutering scheme for cats owned by people on a low or fixed income .

We are one of over 260 volunteer run branches covering the UK. All our volunteers are dedicated to caring for stray and unwanted cats and kittens that come into our care for rehoming.

All enquiries for cats should be made directly to our telephone number at the bottom of the page or by using the contact us form.

If you would like to adopt a cat from us why not have a look at what we have available by visiting out home a cat page where we try and include some images so you can see what they look like.
